ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Hey friends! Welcome to Girls’ Night!
Our guest for today’s episode is one of my very best friends, Shannon Unger. Now, I could tell you so many things about Shannon — like how instrumental she’s been for my faith, or how whenever it would snow at night during our senior year of college, we’d put on all of our snow gear, and go play on the playground. (Playing at the playground in the snow is actually super fun, in case you were wondering!)
But those aren’t the most important things for you to know about her today. The thing you need to know about my dear friend Shannon Unger today is that she’s a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Addiction Counselor who works with people through substance abuse, trauma, and relationship issues.
I know — way more serious than romping around in the snow. But Shannon is a real expert, and that’s exactly what we need for what we’re talking about today.
Today we’re going to be talking about relationships — how to know if you’re in a healthy relationship, and what to do if you’re not.
I’m so glad Shannon’s here today.
In this episode:
Shannon teaches us how to know if our relationships are healthy or not.
She’s going to help us identify some red flags in relationships. She’ll give us some things we should keep an eye out for.
She talks to us about abuse and domestic violence (I learned that there are way more types of abuse than we normally think of, and she’ll tell us all about that in this episode)
She talks to us about what we should do if we ARE in an unhealthy relationship
She tells us how to set ourselves up for healthy relationships in our future
And that’s just the beginning.
Guys, this is a hard episode. It’s not a light one. (We’ll have some extra light ones later in the season. I promise!). But this is such an important episode.

Scripture mentioned in this episode:
Luke 6:45
"The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good, and the evil person out of evil treasure produces evil; for it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks."
James 3:11
"Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?"
1 Corinthians 13: 4-7
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
Taylor Swift song that Shannon mentions
The quote that Shannon mentions from her and Stephanie's old pastor is:
"It's better to be single and wanting to be married than married and wishing you were single."
Something that God is teaching Shannon recently is that she gets to choose what in her life defines her, how she views God, and her faith
The thing Shannon is loving lately is the documentary, Unmasking A Killer
A woman inspiring Shannon these days is Brene Brown
